Empowering Filipino rice farmers with modern financial management
The Rice Farming Accounting System was an output of the qualitative research conducted by Sheila V. Paredes and Francis Tom A. Paredes titled "Exploring the unheard voices of the rice farmers in Agusan del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines" which started sometime in August or September 2025 when one of the applicants for Upsilon Phi Sigma 1935 Fraternity and Sorority shared his experience as a young farmer. The authors were moved upon hearing the statement of the applicant that "kung makahangyo pa sa Ginoo nga di ko ani nga kinabuhi, maghangyu jud ko kay kalisud." if he can request the God to be born with a better living, he would ask God since rice farming is too difficult and laborious. From that moment, the researchers searched related literatures about rice farming in international, national, and local contexts and arriving at an appropriate research questions that would generate research-based contexts. One of the findings that captures the attention of the researchers is the less recording of financial flow of the rice farmers but with intuitions of failure and success for every cropping. Francis then asked Bernie S. Balighot, an IT expert, if it is possible to create a mobile app for rice farming accounting system while asked Berlito A. Oliver, Jr., a Certified Public Accountant, to establish the accounting formula based on the related literatures to arrive at results with per kilo. Thus, with all experiences and contributions of knowledge, the Community-based AI-powered for Rice Farming Accounting System was realized and on the process of community usability test for further improvement.
